Freaking Out

“As the director of Freaking Out, it was a deeply meaningful process that allowed us to understand love and heartbreak more profoundly through Paul. Together, we gave color and shape to how he experienced a certain chapter of his romantic life and how he was able to express it through a song that speaks not only about his breakup, but about how he feels in the world after living through a transformative event.

Through symbols — the dark bathroom where, even so, light still hits his gaze, and the rooftop in backlight where his silhouette is reborn before the sun — I wanted to abstract that transformation: how a wound can disconnect you, but also teach you, open you up, and allow you to know yourself more deeply.

Freaking Out reminds us that, even when something hurts and uncertainty lingers, living it with open arms is always worth it, because even heartbreak can ignite a new way of seeing, feeling, and moving forward.”
